As democracy, the Constitution and America disappears into the sunset there is one piece of real-estate that refuses to die, Texas. Since the first inclinations America may go under to become a satellite of the World Trade Organization Texans were not happy campers. From the first Tea Party Texans from all walks of life and ethnic persuasions were protesting and making their voices heard by their politicians. So much so that Governor Rick Perry of Texas threatened to secede from the union, and he meant it. After all, he was speaking for his constituents, the voting people of Texas. How novel eh.
I know first hand the pride Texans have for their state and her remarkably courageous history. The spirit of the rugged individual lives in the hearts of every Texan and it is with honor Texans stand to defend their state. Protectionism is a tradition in Texas and if you’re not proud of Texas you are not a Texan. Like the sign says, “Don’t Mess with Texas”. But there should be another sign that reads, “If you don’t like her, you can’t stay” and there are horror stories from people who just could not get along in Texas. But there is a multitude of stories from people who fell in love with the Texan culture and gave up their Armani Loafers for a pair of Tony Lama’s.
By and large the Lone Star State has its own economy and the state is growing proportionally as American democracy begins to wane. Even as the nation slumps deeper into recession cottage industries that have long since floundered nationally are flourishing, in Texas. I personally know many entrepreneurs who are opening new stores and enterprises all over the state while America as a whole goes bankrupt. Some say Texas is recession proof while others say Texans take care of their own. Either way you look at it Texas is more than prepared to carry the ball as a free standing nation whence the United States disappears into the abyss of corporate greed. After all, Texas was a free standing nation and fought hard to remain independent and they refuse to belly up from international corporatism. Patriotism, Pride and Protectionism are cornerstones of success for the Lone Star State.
America as a whole could learn something from the fine example Texas and its population made in retaining solvency in the face of the world financial catastrophe. Sadly Patriotism, Pride and Protectionism are all but forgotten or illegal in the other 48 states it would appear. I left out Alaska since the lower 48 never recognized she was a state till oil was pumped out of her. And knowing Alaskans like I do I doubt they would buy into any international corporate take-over, better known as Globalization anyway. When the time comes when it is all too obvious our politicians sold us down the corporate river without a paddle. I hope other states have the courage to stand their ground and secede from the corrupt union.
As for me, I’ll just pop my Tony Lamas on, head down to Sonny Byran’s Smokehouse, grab a paper and eat some of the finest BBQ ribs in the Federation of Texas. Then while reading how people of the North American Union were issued color coded victory coveralls I’ll play an old Bob Wills tune while humming “The Yellow Rose of Texas”
“There’s a yellow rose of Texas
That I am going to see
No other soldier knows her
No soldier, only me………”

With president after president of the United States of America violating more and more tenets of the Constitution of the United States it was only a matter of time before someone said, “Enough”. This week the Lone Star State of Texas did just that as Governor Rick Perry backed Texas’ sovereignty under the 10th Amendment of the Constitution under House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50.
The Governor of Texas said;
“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state. That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”
Texas clearly had enough of federally sponsored extortion through the use of federal funding which compelled states to comply with unconstitutional and illegal mandates and regulations. The absents of constitutionality, the voice of the people and respect for democracy as well as the trend towards socialism was the last straw for the home of Sam Houston and rugged individuality. Texas made a stand for the Constitution of the United States of America while other states pandered their rights liberty for financial gain. In true Texan flare they are defiant and face down the federal government in this landmark decision. Ain’t nothin new for Texans fore their history is filled with courage and defiance against all odds and adversaries.
Homeland Security will undoubtedly add Texas to the list of “fringe” organizations and groups. I tip my hat to the Rose of San Antonio, the Republic of Texas and salute the New Rough Riders for the Constitution of the United States of America. Like the signs read when driving into the state, ‘You Don’t Mess with Texas”
